Andrea McDonald (b. 1995) is a Sausalito-based abstract artist whose earthen, textural works explore the interplay between tension and calm. Working primarily with acrylic paint and volcanic grit, she creates deeply tactile surfaces that evoke geological formations and organic erosion.
McDonald’s process embraces natural imperfection. She layers and fractures raw materials into harmonic compositions that invite close inspection. Her earthen palette and surprising color pairings elicit a quiet intensity, offering viewers a moment of stillness and introspection.
McDonald began painting in 2024 during a six-week recovery from knee surgery, a period that reshaped her creative trajectory. With no formal training and less than two years in the field, she has already completed numerous private commissions across the U.S. and Europe and is gaining early traction among collectors.
Her work was most recently exhibited at Gallery Sausalito’s Biggest Small Works show in June 2025.
